Ancient Indian Beauty Secrets
Tumeric is used in Indian food, but it is also used in beauty supplies in India and is rapidly being adopted in the United States and other places. Tumeric exfoliates dead skin to reveal a brighter complexion. It is usually mixed together with honey (one of nature's best moisturizers) for normal-to-dry skin. You can make your own complexion-beautifying cleanser at home. In a small bowl, combine 1 tsp. of honey with a pinch of tumeric powder (do not too much since it can stain the skin) and mix until it becomes a paste. Smooth over your face and let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse.
Indian women take mind-clearing strolls called a prana walk. This is part of the ancient Indian medical practice ayuveda, the common prescription for tiredness and brain fog.
They believe that walks in nature provide exposure to prana, which is the life force in tress, water and plants. Prana flows into the body and corrects any internal imbalances that hinder mental and physical wellbeing. Researchers from the University of Michigan discovered that walking among trees improves short-term memory and attention by 20 percent.
For stress relief, Indian massage called Champissage is used. It focuses on pressure points on the neck, face and shoulders. This massage increases the circulation and efficiency of the lymphatic systems, and helps to disperse damaging toxins. Trapped toxins dull the skin, lead to cellulite formation and weight gain and can dampen immunity and energy. To do this yourself, gently massage your scalp with your fingertips. Next, grab fistfuls of hair by the roots with knuckles close to your head. Turn your head from side to side, tugging your hair lightly. Also, place the heels of your palms on your temples and squeeze, making circular movements. You can also massage the back of your neck with one hand by squeezing the muscles going from top to bottom.
Now for the beautiful shiny thick hair, Indians use coconut-oil conditioner. Coconut contains lauric acid, a saturated fatty acid, which penetrates the hair shaft and bonds to proteins. It can help in healing damaged strands and can fortify locks against breakage. Coconut oil moisturizes the scalp, which wards off dandruff flakes. Massaging coconut oil into the scalp also stimulates the circulation of blood to the area, which helps hair to grown better.

The Secret to Beautiful Hair
I love looking good. I love beautiful hair, which mine isn't. Sometimes I feel like I spend most of my weekend in the salon. I feel so great when I come out. It makes me feel wonderful, so I go often.
One time, I decided to change my hair color as well as the style. My natural hair is black so to lighten it, I had to have it bleached first, then colored. It looked good, but not great. It held up pretty well until the first time I washed it. Afterwards, it looked frizzy and dull. It started to break at the root.
I began to lose hair. The hair got weak and thin, so I decided to change stylists. He couldn't do anything with it. He just told me to let it grow out. It looked so bad that I started wearing a wig. Things got worse.
I was horrified! I tried everything, but nothing worked. My hair just got thinner and weaker - and uglier. The more I worked with it, the worse it looked. Finally, I decided to go to the doctor. He said that not only had I abused my hair too much, my diet and lifestyle were the main problem. I was overweight and my skin was dry. I was beginning to look old and I felt old.
The doctor said that if I really wanted healthy hair, I had to start with a healthy body. I would never have beautiful hair again unless I changed my habits.
So with his help, I began to change. I started with simple things first: taking a walk every evening instead of crashing on the couch. At first my walks didn't take me far but later I began to enjoy them. I saw things I had never seen before. I met people and chatted, got to know my neighbors.
I also began to relax. My hectic work pace kept me wound up much more than I had realized. I noticed that now, I wasn't so tense. I quit caring what I looked like when out on my walks. I just threw a scarf over my head to hide my ugly hair and wore some old clothes. I didn't care what I looked like as long as I was comfortable.
I also changed my diet. I cut way down on meats, especially beef. The doc said that beef was pretty much a killer with its high fat content. I started making salads with a bit of chicken or turkey. I added cranberries, walnuts or crushed Brazil nuts, broccoli and carrots. Tomatoes gave the salad moisture. I took this to work for lunch instead of going out for junk food. The lunches made me feel lighter and more energetic. I got more work done with less stress. I was beginning to feel great and I was saving a ton of money.
Often, I would prepare a dinner and take it to the park not far from home. It was so beautiful sitting under the trees, listening to the birds and watching small animals I had never noticed before. The sunsets were gorgeous. Even with people strolling by, it was peaceful and quiet. Watching the warm glow of lights in the homes coming on made me feel warm and cheerful, even in winter.
The feeling carried over when I returned home. I got some weights and started exercising in front of the TV. They were nothing heavy, just 3 to 5 pounds to start, and only to keep me from losing muscle while I lost weight. Soon however, that warm burning sensation I got from the exercise became addictive and I found myself adding a bit of weight and doing more. I began to feel really proud of myself.
My weight began to drop; I increased my walks to include a bicycle and later some jogging. My hair slowly began to return. It came back thicker and healthier looking than before. All the time I spent away from the salon helped nature to heal the damage I had done to it.
So here are a few of my "secrets" to beautiful hair:
Exercise is the most important element in getting beautiful hair.
Start out small and work yourself up. No matter how small, some exercise is better than no exercise. But most important, make it a habit. When you first start out, you have to make yourself do it. Later, it becomes a habit and finally, you find yourself scheduling other activities around your exercise routine. Join a gym, or better still, take up martial arts. You will get the benefits of exercise and also learn to defend yourself.
You will also find that exercise will dull your appetite. I know that sounds backwards, but it's true. Also, building muscle will burn off fat. You don't want to look like the female Schwartzenegger, but a firm body will definitely turn heads. You will walk smoother, lighter and with more grace than you ever thought possible. Believe me; it is well worth the effort it takes.
Make New Friends
When you start exercising, you will meet like minded people. That is important to keep you focused and inspired. Get together after a great workout and relax. Have a casual dinner and chat. It is a beautiful finish to your day.
Eat Healthy
Avoid junk food, whether it is eat out, take out, frozen or otherwise. The crap is loaded with grease, salt and chemicals. It takes a bit of time to get used to eating real food again, but once you do you will never go back. One bite of salt laden pizza will choke you. You won't believe you ever ate that garbage.
Stay away from the White Death (salt). Use spices and natural juices to flavor your food. I will discuss this in more detail on my blog. See below for the link.
Eat smaller. You have stretched out your insides with overeating. Give it time to shrink back to normal.
Don't have time to cook in the evenings? Sure you do. Just prepare all the ingredients and mixes on a weekend. Make a thick chicken or turkey soup, divide into portions according to family size and pop them into the freezer. I re-use my few containers by freezing the soup then removing it from the container still frozen and put it into plastic bags to keep until ready to eat.
Take care of your hair!
Remember the whole point here is to look beautiful and your hair shows everyone just how beautiful you are.
Moisturize regularly. Comb and brush gently, keep your scalp clean and use a good quality conditioner. Your shampoo should not leave your hair stiff or dull. If it does, it means that it is opening up the cuticles too much. Change to another.
Remember, the secret to beautiful hair is a healthy you. Maintain a balance in all you do. Balance activity with relaxation, eating with exercise. And be sure to include lots of peaceful moments. Instead of TV, read a book. It is better for the mind and the quiet will help settle the nerves. Spend time with friends and the ones you love. Most of all, love your beautiful self.
